The park is one of the best birding locations in East Africa and is renowned for its concentration of wild species, particularly elephants.
The Tarangire River, which flows through the park and encompasses an area of 2850 km2, is where the park gets its name.
Climate
Tarangire has a bimodal rainfall with short rains from November to December, long rains from March to May, and a dry season from June to October and January to February.
The park is located at an altitude between 900m and 1250 meters with annual average rainfall ranging from 650 to 700mm.
Getting there
The Park is reachable by air or car.
Road: From the city of Arusha, the park is accessible through a 121-kilometer tarmac road.
Air: The Kilimanjaro International Airport, 46 kilometers from Arusha, is the closest airport to the park. There are chartered aircraft from Arusha to the park’s Kuro Airstrip as well.
